Introduction to Mindfulness | Mindfulness Training with Bonnie Currie (Sundays 1/21, 1/28, 2/4 and 2/11; In-Person)

THE WHEN?: For this series, we will meet in-person (Location TBA) on the following Sundays in 2024 - 1/21, 1/28, 2/4 and 2/11 from 4:30p - 6:30p.

THE WHAT? Mindfulness is the practice of bringing our attention into the same place as our body. Sounds easy, right? Simple perhaps, but not always easy. We live in a world of distraction, fed by gadgets and busyness and competition and consumerism and nervous systems in overdrive. And we are missing it - we are missing the sunrise and the taste of that first sip of our morning coffee. We are missing our dog’s cold nose (and kind heart). We are missing the birdsong and the warmth of the sun. We are missing ourselves and we are missing each other. Mindfulness is the practice of coming home to yourself and to the vibrant life, community and world around you. It is the practice of waking up. In this 4 week trauma-sensitive introductory course, we will explore practices to ground our nervous systems and to pause in the present moment. We will cultivate resources for learning how to reconnect our over-thinking minds with our bodies and for turning towards and interacting with challenging stories and emotions with a curious, kind and compassionate heart.

In addition to the meet-ups, additional resources will be offered for support and practice throughout our time together.

No prior yoga, meditation or mindfulness practice necessary. We begin right where we are.

To enhance community and connection, space is limited to 12 participants (with a minimum of 6 needed to hold the training).

THE INVESTMENT? On or before 12/20/23: $185 | On or after 12/21/23: $200

(As always, it is my intention that cost does not serve as an obstacle to participation; if you need me to work with you on the price, just reach out and we will make it work)

Mindfulness Meditation Day Retreat, January 13, 2024, 10:30a - 5p

I hope you can join us for our first day-long Mindfulness Retreat at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Saturday, 1/13/2024 from 10:30a - 5p.

INVESTMENT: This retreat is being offered via a tiered pricing model intended to increase access for a a wider range of participants as well as to support the community and facilitator.  The tiers include Supporter Rate (pay for yourself and contribute for others to participate), Actual Rate (pay the actual rate), and Scholarship Rate (pay a discounted rate). DETAILS: This will largely be a silent retreat, with encouragement to commit to refraining from any use of technology/phones during our time together. The day will be focused on practices of steadying attention, refining awareness and mindful communication/listening.  We will practice mindfully attending to the unfolding of the layers of our experiences – to our bodies, hearts and thoughts/emotions and to the obstacles that get in the way of our access to our experiences.  We will mediate, move our bodies, and journal – in community with one another.  Lunch will be a silent practice of mindful eating and you are encouraged to bring something nourishing for you to eat and drink for lunch.

Registration is limited to those who have attended Mindfulness Training with @bonniecurrie or who have at least six months of a regular mindfulness practice.

To enhance community and connection, space is limited to 16 participants (with a minimum of 8 needed to hold the retreat).

Screening of the CRASH REEL and Presentation with Trisha Meili, 3/29 6p

Lotus Yoga has partnered with the LoveYourBrain (LYB) Foundation to offer yoga to people who have experienced traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and their caregivers. LYB was launched by the family of Kevin Pearce, a professional snowboarder who suffered a near fatal traumatic brain injury while training for the 2010 winter Olympics. Kevin’s remarkable resilience was documented and transformed into the award winning HBO Documentary, “The Crash Reel,” which brought light to the experience of traumatic brain injuries. Kevin and his family experienced first hand the potential for healing and resilience yoga and mindfulness offer.

Join us on 3/29 at 6p at Lotus Yoga for a community screening of The Crash Reel. Lotus Yoga’s Trisha Meili, a long-time yoga practitioner, TBI survivor, author and community advocate will be presenting at this event to share her experience of healing through the power of community support, yoga and mindfulness.

SUGGESTED DONATION: $20 (Space is limited | Click HERE to reserve your space | If you are unable to attend, yet feel called to donate to LYB click HERE | All donations go to the LYB Foundation)

Special thanks to our friends at lululemon for partnering with us to make this event happen!

ABOUT TRISHA:

Trisha Meili sustained a traumatic brain injury in April 1989 when she went for a run in NYC’s Central Park and was beaten, raped and left for dead. Her story is about the capacity of the human body, mind and spirit to heal. It is a story of hope and possibility.

Trisha is deeply grateful for all the support she has received over the past 30 years. To Trisha, that support, which continues to this day, is crucial to her healing process.

A place Trisha found support was in her yoga studio. Her practice has provided a safe place for her to explore living inside a new body and new mind each time she arrives at the mat. Trisha loves the confidence her practice gives her and is amazed at how her practice continues to progress.

For Trisha, yoga has become not only a physical practice that has helped continue her recovery, but also a spiritual practice that helps her stay centered, grounded and at peace amidst the stresses of living as a brain injury and rape survivor. She tells us, “Yoga allows me to continue to learn, grow and heal both on and off the mat.” For this she is grateful.
