WHAT? A FREE 6 week yoga and meditation series for people who have experienced a TBI (including a concussion) and their caregivers. People will have an opportunity to:
• participate in gentle yoga adapted for the TBI community;
• learn meditation techniques to promote relaxation; and
• connect with others who have experienced a TBI through group discussion.
Our programs start in January, April, July, and October. The July 2019 series will be held on Monday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 pm from July 8 through August 12.

Lotus Yoga has partnered with the LoveYourBrain (LYB) Foundation to offer yoga to people who have experienced traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and their caregivers. LYB was launched by the family of Kevin Pearce, a professional snowboarder who suffered a near fatal traumatic brain injury while training for the 2010 winter Olympics. Kevin’s remarkable resilience was documented and transformed into the award winning HBO Documentary, “The Crash Reel,” which brought light to the experience of traumatic brain injuries. Kevin and his family experienced first hand the potential for healing and resilience yoga and mindfulness offer.
Join us on 3/29 at 6p at Lotus Yoga for a community screening of The Crash Reel. Lotus Yoga’s Trisha Meili, a long-time yoga practitioner, TBI survivor, author and community advocate will be presenting at this event to share her experience of healing through the power of community support, yoga and mindfulness.

Trisha Meili sustained a traumatic brain injury in April 1989 when she went for a run in NYC’s Central Park and was beaten, raped and left for dead. Her story is about the capacity of the human body, mind and spirit to heal. It is a story of hope and possibility.
Trisha is deeply grateful for all the support she has received over the past 30 years. To Trisha, that support, which continues to this day, is crucial to her healing process.
A place Trisha found support was in her yoga studio. Her practice has provided a safe place for her to explore living inside a new body and new mind each time she arrives at the mat. Trisha loves the confidence her practice gives her and is amazed at how her practice continues to progress.
For Trisha, yoga has become not only a physical practice that has helped continue her recovery, but also a spiritual practice that helps her stay centered, grounded and at peace amidst the stresses of living as a brain injury and rape survivor. She tells us, “Yoga allows me to continue to learn, grow and heal both on and off the mat.” For this she is grateful.
THE WHAT? A training to develop your skills, knowledge, and confidence to tailor yoga, meditation, and pranayama for the traumatic brain injury (TBI) population. Love Your Brain Yoga is an accessible gentle yoga and meditation program for the TBI community offered across North America.
THE WHY? We believe that yoga has the potential to transform the wellbeing of those living with traumatic brain injury by improving their ability to strengthen, and reconnect to, their mind and body.
WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR? 200-hour certified yoga teachers and clinicians working directly with (or interested in working with) the TBI community.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? Love Your Brain Yoga Teacher Training Manual (+175pages); hands-on experience learning gentle yoga modifications, effective sequencing, and fundamental teaching; tips to meet the unique needs of the TBI community; training in meditation practices and pranayama techniques to focus the mind and calm the nervous system; insight into neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, the impact of TBI on the individual and family, and how neuroplasticity influences healing; connections to the broader Love Your Brain community and movement to shift the culture around TBI healing and brain health.

This workshop is here to inspire Your Unique Yoga. In this two hour session we combine the exploration of the chakra system and Do-In self-massage. Bring all your blankets, pillows and comfort props.

Restorative yoga is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. With the use of props, students will be given the chance to fully and gently relax into poses. Through these restorative yoga poses we will work to release deep tensions, creating conditions to let our breath move more freely.
Come join Rachel and Rhonda for this gentle workshop designed to help facilitate easier breathing and allow for greater breath awareness. If you already have a pranayama practice come let this workshop inspire and support you. If you're new to having a breathing practice come learn and use this gentle restorative practice to explore the power of the breath.

With the use of Himalayan singing bowls and gong Sheri will hold the space of peace while Rhonda encourages restorative poses for sound receptivity and healing. Cost is $25 advance $30 at door.
Voice of the Drum, the new workshop by Ken Anoff, explores the mind/body/ drum connection, leading ultimately to a deeper understanding of how rhythm effects us and how to make drumming a more fulfilling and ultimately spiritual practice. Drawing on a lifetime of study, teaching and performing, Ken will guide participants through a variety of experiential rhythms designed to illustrate the magic and transformative power of playing drums. No prior musical experience is required, and there will be plenty of substance as well for seasoned drummers! Bring a drum of any kind, or arrange for a loaner drum with advance notice.
This workshop includes exercises, activations and powerful energy clearing through which you'll begin to shift and clear patterns and pain related to subconscious moments in your childhood that may be impacting your every day reality. Deb will also do intuitive readings to help you identify and clear the original moments when these subconscious patterns were seated. You'll leave feeling more positive and open, ready to create a new experience in your current reality!

Jude has been practicing yoga for over 15 years. It was in 2008, however, that he stumbled into his first Mysore Ashtanga class in Louisville, Kentucky and was hooked. He has maintained a daily ashtanga practice since then and in 2012 began assisting his teacher, Laura Spaulding. In 2012, he also made his first pilgrimage to Mysore, India to study under R. Sharath Jois at the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI).
Over the years, Jude has traveled to Maui to study with Nancy Gilgoff and has done intensives with certified teachers David Garrigues and Kino MacGregor. In January of 2016, he received authorization to teach from Sharath. This year, he returned from his fifth trip to Mysore and relocated to the Jacksonville area.
Jude strives to teach as he has been taught and loves sharing the traditional method and beauty that is Ashtanga!

FRIDAY, 9:00a – 5:00p (we will break from 11-12:30 for lunch) Finding Your Framework: A Yoga Teachers Think Tank (Open to Teachers and Trainees) Intention: Further our skills as yoga teachers with authenticity, smart sequencing and student advocacy.
Being a yoga teacher takes a lot of time, work, energy, and commitment— and from the moment you begin teaching, you’re sharing a big piece of yourself. Many of us know what it’s like to lose inspiration to the hustle and grind of teaching multiple private clients, juggling a busy class schedule, and not having enough time for your own practice. This day-long program was designed to refresh your methods, to re-inspire your teaching, and to answer a lot of the questions behind exactly why we do what we do. What to Expect: In this session, we'll being with a full vinyasa practice, allowing you to turn off the teacher’s brain for a bit, find solace on your mat again, and enjoy being a student. We’ll then break down the components of instruction and gain confidence in safe and practical sequencing. We’ll discuss optimal frameworks for classes and cueing formulas, move through group exercises on sequencing and voicing deliberate, clear instructions, and share successful techniques on the business of yoga. This program is part retreat, part teacher (re)training, and part community building. In addition to receiving CEU’s, all attendees will also receive a digital guide to sequencing as well as downloadable worksheets and sequences. Please bring a notepad and pen. In this learning environment, all questions are welcome about any topics within or involving yoga. (Teacher’s will receive 6.5 hours of CEU’s in accordance with Yoga Alliance Standards.)

SATURDAY, 12:30p – 3p Shine On: The Science of Optimism (all levels)
Intention: Get on the right track to living with passion, authenticity, quality relationships, and happiness.
Being a human is often times hard. Being an adult human with all of the responsibilities of modern life is even harder. But great minds from ancient philosophers to modern psychologists alike believe that the greatest part of the human experience is our ability to be thoroughly present and happy. Some even say this is our ultimate purpose. This class is unlike any other in that we’ll discuss what it is to drop shitty, stifling habits, to come alive, to be passionate about what we do, and to feel fulfilled. This discussion followed by a short yoga practice is aimed at reinvigorating our attitudes and making healthy choices toward happiness. Everything from finances to relationships will be discussed.
SATURDAY, 3:30p – 6:00p The Beginner’s Guide to Getting Upside Down (all levels)
Intention: Explore safe methods and practices for nailing inversions.
Many yogis long for the ability to easily balance upside down. However, few understand that this requires intelligent technique, and a lot of practice. This class is about linking the regions of the body needed to balance safely as well as how to mentally and physically prepare for handstand. (Plank pose, downward dog, and dolphin pose should all be accessible if you plan on attending this class.)
SUNDAY, 10:30a – 1:00p
The Oyster + The Pearl: Hips + Shoulders + Heart Openers (all levels)
Intention: Strengthen and open various compartments of the hips and shoulders to more easily move and breathe in backbends.
Most people find it challenging to breathe and relax in back bends or hip openers. This class will highlight the basic anatomy of our hips and spine as well as techniques for safely and easily accessing these areas, and then move into deeper layers of physical practice that build on each other. We’ll learn how proper form and a smart approach will lead to ease and space in such postures as mermaid, upward facing bow, lizard, and camel.
SUNDAY, 2:00p – 4:00p
Easy Like Sunday Morning: Lazy Restoration (all levels)
Intention: Chill out in your pajamas with good tunes and lazy, restorative yoga to bring balance back to the body.
Life is often way too much go go go. Slow down in this class, chill for a bit, and unwind with purposeful yet lazy, restorative yin yoga. We’ll spend time opening the hips, spine, and shoulders while countering the negative effects of gravity on our bodies and a hectic lifestyle on our minds. Feel free to come in pajamas, bring your favorite pillow, and prepare for stretching your body back to its natural state of freedom and mobility. This class is yummy.
